2005 Statewide Prevention Conference Scrapbook

Congratulations to the winners of the 2005 Florida Prevention Leadership awards! The group was honored at a reception Nov. 15. The list of winners will be posted at preventioninflorida.org.

The Hippodrome State Theater received the state of Florida's first recognition as a Community Level Model program. The organization went through a rigorous evaluation of its Hippodrome Improvisational Teen Theater (HITT). Receiving the recognition is Kelly Dugan, Director of Education. She is pictured with Mae Waters, Florida State University, Director James McDonough and Skip Forsyth, Department of Children and Families.

Community-Wide Anti Substance Abuse Effort (CASE) from Holmes County receives a Family Day check from Director James McDonough and Lt. Governor Toni Jennings.

The Tobacco Free Partnership from Bay County receives its Family Day award from Director James McDonough and Lt. Governor Toni Jennings.

Palm Beach County Substance Abuse Coalition receives its award from Director McDonough and Lt. Governor Toni Jennings.

Mary Ann Douglas and Charisse Strawberry MC the "Walk the Talk" Youth Fashion Show on Nov. 16. Clear Channel helped sponsor the event that included country singer Daron Norwood.

Director James McDonough and Penny Norton, FACE, are on stage at Thursday's opening session. The stage is lined with Family Shields, created by youth teams to represent the protective factors in their lives.

More than 350 youth attended this year's conference. The Youth Leadership Summit was filled with workshops, a fashion show, projects and this rock-climbing wall provided by the Florida National Guard. Youth, like these, learned personal skills and ways to help their peers back in their own communities.
